Dream win for Cicero’s Gift in the QEII
Dream’s do come true, and that was proved when Cicero’s Gift passed the line first in a top class renewal of the QEII. We’d held him in high regard from before his impressive winning debut at Newbury almost three years ago. We were very close to running him in the 2000 Guineas as a three year old, and he did start at single figure odds for the St James Palace Stakes. It was after this that the wheels literally fell off, and after extensive investigations Ian Wright advised us to give him 6 months off. He brought him back very slowly and the team at home did an amazing job, as he won his first start as a four year old. Things didn’t really go according to plan after that, and at the end of the season we decided to geld him and give him a wind operation.
This year he has been a different horse and we have literally had no issues with him at all, apart from the driest spring/summer for years! Not ideal for a horse who needs give in the ground to be seen at his best. It’s been frustrating to say the least. However they say good things come to those who wait and that’s what happened at Ascot on Saturday. Just an amazing day and a huge credit to all the team at home.
